Castleknock College
Architect: CCH Campbell Conroy Hickey Partnership Architects
Construction Project Management: NJ O’Gorman & Associates
Burns Construction carried out the refurbishment of the existing college and constructed the new Link Building and Cregan extension along with outhouses and car park. It contains three state of the art science laboratories, new interactive class halls, a centralised administration area and disabled access to all floors. The expansion of the Cregan house provides additional class hall space, a new concourse on each floor, library and reading room. The roofs of the McNamara East and West buildings were renovated and refurbished also, while the school remained open and live underneath. Burns Construction designed measures to temporary weather these floors below throughout the period of the tricky build of the new roof. The site management successfully handed over areas of the building at agreed phases. The services to the in-use offices and class rooms had to be maintained throughout. An appreciation and proactive approach by Burns in partnership with the design team, to the health & safety and welfare of the pupils and staff of the school, along with the construction workers was of paramount importance throughout the entire €11 million contract during the 24 months.
